Programme for Event Day

With only a month left before DrupalCamp Cemaes I thought I'd share some info on the plans for the day. It will be a more informal event for a few reasons, think barcamp meets hallway track. There will be no set list of speakers and anyone is invited, and encouraged, to participate in the days events. Drupal events are much more fun when people get involved, whether that's doing a talk, show and tell, helping each other out, or just chatting in the kitchen.

There's a few reasons for this. The first one being that since I'm the only one involved in organising the event I thought it would be kind of odd to open the camp up for session submissions where I would be the only one choosing who gets to speak. My own biases would certainly determine what sessions would be picked (no chance anything related to "AI" would be chosen).

The second reason, and probably more important, is that I didn't really know what the response to the event as a whole would be and I didn't want people to go through the trouble of submitting sessions for quite a small event. Overall I thought I'd see what the response was like when tickets were first available, and then make my decision from there.

Since we have the entire venue for the day we have access to the main hall for talks, a separate room for those who'd like to sprint, and a kitchen just in case you feel like testing any recipes from the Umami profile.

I've always wanted this event to be a bit different than the usual camps, so given the proximity of the beach and other natural surroundings, if we feel like grabbing some picnic blankets and talking Drupal on the beach there's nothing to stop us. Anyone up for a big Drupal walk on the coastal path on Sunday?

When it comes to Drupal events overall, I've always learned a lot from going to the sessions. But to be honest, over the years when I think back about all the events I've gone to, I can't remember most of the sessions I've attended, but I certainly remember all the people I've met, and the informal things that have happened along the way. I had a lot of fun just hanging out in the canteen all day at the last Drupal event I went to in Manchester back in 2019.

I've thought a lot about the Drupal Science Camp in Cambridge from 2012 when organising this, that was my first ever camp. My favourite part of that (outside of lunch, the food was excellent) was when a casual conversation about an issue turned into a few people taking over a room and various people troubleshooting the issue. A few differerent people shared their screens on the projector and had a go. It was fun to just have various people chime in, stand up, connect their laptop, and give it a shot. That sort of energy has stuck in my head all these years later, and to me that's the power of Drupal events.

So come and take part! The event is all about the attendees, we just need you here.
